Sustainable heating
Acting with the environment in mind matters a great deal to us at Inselcamp Rügen. That is why we rely on a modern, CO₂-neutral heating solution that is both efficient and sustainable.
Our buildings are heated by a combined heat and power unit and a wood chip boiler. The wood chips come from regional, sustainably managed forestry, a renewable raw material that releases only as much CO₂ when burnt as the tree absorbed while growing.
The combined heat and power unit also produces heat and electricity at the same time, which makes especially efficient use of the energy involved. That way we actively reduce our ecological footprint and help conserve resources.
Banzelvitz Forest Angels
Protecting nature, strengthening community and making a statement, that is the idea behind our heartfelt Banzelvitzer Waldengel (Banzelvitz Forest Angels) project.
Long-standing regular guests who have been part of our site for ten years can look forward to a very special gesture: they are invited to plant their own fruit tree, donated by Inselcamp Rügen. The tree becomes part of our growing “Waldengel” area, and of course they are welcome to harvest it themselves in the years to come.
At the same time we keep adding to the trees across the whole site. We take care to plant in a natural and varied way that creates habitats for insects, birds and many other animals and enriches the landscape for the long term.
Cleanliness and mindfulness
Treating nature with care starts with the small everyday things. That is why cleanliness and consistent waste separation are so important to us at Inselcamp Rügen, across the whole site and together with our guests.
At our clearly marked waste stations you can easily separate your rubbish into recyclable materials. That way we all help conserve resources and take pressure off the environment. Our cleaning and site teams work with great care to keep the camp clean, tidy and well maintained at all times.
To protect nature further, we have designated smoking areas. We ask all guests to stick to them, so that cigarette ends do not end up in the countryside and everyone can enjoy the fresh air.
Saving water
At Inselcamp Rügen we use water consciously and sparingly. Our sanitary areas are fitted with water-saving taps, and in the showers and washing areas too we rely on modern technology that automatically reduces water consumption.
Another big plus: our naturally grown, shade-giving trees create a pleasantly cool microclimate, even on hot summer days. That keeps our green spaces naturally protected and resilient, with no artificial irrigation at all.
The combination of climate-friendly shade and well thought-out water technology makes our camp not only more environmentally friendly but also a place where you can feel thoroughly at ease, with a clear conscience.
